My Thoughts, Our Thoughts
In approximately a week and a few days, my Facebook account will be permanently deleted. Since I pressed the permanently delete account button last week, I’ve discovered something amazing. My thoughts are seemingly my own again. I no longer share this compulsion to share my inner life with everyone. What I’ve found in the midst of this decision to rid my life of a particular way of communicating is the beauty of aloneness and the power of priority. I am free to be alone with my thoughts, to enjoy my own company, and to prioritize spending time with people who really are a priority to me. It’s amazing how Facebook, which enables you to instantaneously interact with thousands of people, renders that ability almost useless. Will it be harder for people to keep in touch with me? Yes, it probably will; but that’s the point. If I’m not a priority in your life, and you’re nor a priority in mine, that’s OK. We’ll be fine, and maybe even wiser for the ware.
