A small stint of iron was found in the heart of the growing fetus. It would have been of little concern but for the fact that with each passing week the iron stint grew. Worry grew in lines along the edges of Pegeen’s eyes and mouth as she received the same report week after week. At the end of the first trimester, its shape was clear. In the images obtained from the sonogram, it appeared as a knife. The doctors were perplexed, but had little worry as the knife like deposit in the heart didn’t impact it in any immediate way or otherwise. But Pegeen felt every piercing beat, and her worry grew into depression at the thought of a child who could not play for fear of a sudden and voilent heart attack.
