Of the many fears I have regarding my time spent using social networking sites, one is the fear of falling slowly into patterns of digital narcissism. It is a great relief when I encounter individuals who, being both passionate about their art and willing to embrace new mediums, engage in the use of such social networks with artistic aplomb. One such individual is the photographer known as “koci” on Instagram. His photographic work reveals a world of stunning intimacy with visual juxtapositions that tease at our sometimes limited view of the possibilities inherent in photographic social networks. Furthermore, it compels me to breathe a sigh of relief in knowing that though the tool may shape us in some way, there are those that see the tool not for what it is, but in so many ways what it could be and what can be had from it. For more of koci’s brilliant work, follow him on Instagram, or check out his Flickr photostream.
