AthFest: The Awesome List
Listen, no one wants to listen to stuff they don’t want to listen to. So, in order to assist you in making the best musical choices, I’m going to list bands that really grabbed me from AthFest’s line up this year.
So first there is Monahan. They remind me of Athlete, who sang a cover of a Bob Dylan song with Gemma Hayes. They’re also less whiney than Athlete, so that’s a plus. Here’s a video preview so you can make up your own mind:
Next we have Oryx and Crake. Now this band has a lot to live up to considering they’ve named themselves after the title of a book by my former literary crush Margaret Atwood. Thankfully, they deliver with a resounding (oops, a pun) punch to your awesometer:
Then there is Easter Island who is reminiscent of Trespassers William but with a male vocalist. They’ve got that dream pop sort of vibe, but not as heavy as Asobi Seksu. It’s good stuff I think you’ll dig:
Now, if you’re into jam-type bands, I think Futurebirds will be right up your alley:
Okay ladies and gents, I think that should do it for now. Keep an eye out for more tomorrow.
